Here's What It's Really Like To Date Someone Much More Attractive Than You
A looker-by definition-is a very attractive person. We also classify these people as “way out of her league”. Basically, this is when we decide to be with someone who is way more attractive than us. Or maybe it's more of their decision, because they can technically get anyone on the planet with those dreamy eyes and that smoking hot bod.
Naturally, this can be a great privilege. We all wish we had a significant other who was always easy on eyes, right? Imagine getting to show someone off at any and every work event and family gathering. Amazing! Instead, a lot of us are stuck with mediocre-looking partners-not that that's a bad thing-and we may not be as satisfied with their looks as we could be.
Some of us get pretty lucky and end up with someone who is undeniably hotter than us. But how lucky are we really? This “blessing” may be disguising the issues that some people have. Even worse, it may be a struggle for some of us for the rest of our lives. Maybe it's not quite as bad as being single forever, though. So, we put up with it. Let's take a look at some of the ways your life might turn out if you choose to be with a looker! Hint: It's not as great as it may seem.
15 Remember, HE's the Arm Candy, Not You
Imagine that your boyfriend gets invited to a gala with his company, and he gets to bring a guest. If he would like to, of course. You're the obvious choice, right? Wrong. Are you hot enough to be shown off to all of his work friends? That's a pretty strong deciding factor in whether or not you end up at that fancy dinner. Beyond that, do you have the manners, the nice dress, and the charm and wit he wants other guys to swoon over?
Let's say that he actually does decide to bring you with him. A miracle-if we've ever seen one! You might feel embarrassed, because he felt like he had to bring you. In fact, you'll probably stress out and try on too many outfits. You'll fix your hair about 15 times and try to pull it all together. In the end, you may be stuck sitting at a table by yourself while he's out socializing-and not showing you off.
14 Strangers Do a Double Take
We've all seen actors and actresses perform a perfect, classic double take in a movie scene. You might want to get used to that happening in real life, too. People will notice your sexy significant other, naturally. It happens! No big deal, right? They'll look away fairly quickly, because who wants to be creepy and stare?
Then they'll see you as they're turning away. They might turn around and try to process how someone like you could be with that person who just caught their eye. Be prepared for some blank stares as they try to wrap their head around the situation. It's just something that will come with being with someone who is much hotter than you. Get used to the double takes, the shocked expressions, and even some doubting onlookers.
13 You Used to Feel Hot
When you first get with someone who is a lot more attractive than you are, you'll probably be flattered. You'll be really excited, and your confidence might skyrocket for the first time in a decade. It's a magical feeling, really.
But then you will start to doubt yourself. You will look around and notice all of these supermodels at the grocery store. You will obviously realize that they just don't look like you. If there are people that are so much hotter than you, then why is your partner with you? Good question. We aren't sure either!
It's going to be a battle at all times to deal with being the less attractive “better half”. Any insecurities you had before will be even more prevalent every day from now on.
12 Is He Cheating?
Let's be real. We all get a little bit worried and panicky anyway when our boyfriends are spending extra time on their phones or working over-time. Now, what if he happened to be a total stud? Extra fears, right? Yikes!
He might just be checking sports scores more often because of basketball season, or maybe there's a huge project deadline at work. Regardless, you're going to be concerned. And why wouldn't he leave your average beauty for someone who is basically a supermodel?
This won't end once the vows have been spoken. It won't end once he explains himself and tells you it was just a meeting with a work buddy. It's going to be a lifelong struggle to see him be slightly busier or pick up a new hobby, which might actually be getting trashed and partying with the ladies. Still, he's probably just going to the gym like he says.
11 You'll Want Those Bedroom Lights Off
If we're being honest… Very few of us are 100% confident about our skills in the bedroom all the time. We all have moments of doubt, and we all worry that we aren't satisfying our partner like we had hoped.
But when you're drastically unattractive compared to your boyfriend, you will have even more worries. What does your face look like? Is your tummy flab off-putting? How about all of those freckles on your shoulders or the peach fuzz on your stomach? You can only hide some of these things, and at some point-you can't hide anything. This is especially true when spontaneity comes into play.
To make matters even worse, a lot of the buildup and the romance have to do with attractiveness. So, being hot definitely comes in handy when you're getting hot with someone.
10 No Make-Up Is A No-No
Whenever you're out-whether it's the weekly grocery trip, picking the kids up from school, or grabbing lunch with your husband-you will have to be put together. What if you run into someone that knows you two are married and they see you fresh from the gym? Gasp! It would basically be a crime.
So, naturally, you'll spend an hour doing your hair and makeup before dropping something off for a neighbor. Or you'll throw on real pants to get your kids off the bus at the corner of your street.
It might become a little bit obsessive at some point, and you'll probably begin to drive yourself nuts worrying about it. Better than anyone seeing you not all done up, right? You've got to dress to impress, no matter where you're headed for the day.
9 Let's Hope the Kids Look Like Him
We've all seen some ugly kids out and about, and usually they're the ones acting like demons at the mall, too. From the beginning of a pretty serious relationship, some of us gals start considering marriage and settling down to raise a family. Totally normal; it's all good!
But what if you're just not attractive? Do you still think kids are a good idea? What if they end up ugly? They'd be screwed just like you are. Plus, the whole time you're with your boyfriend or husband, you'll be hoping you guys don't accidentally have a kid before you come to terms with this on your own.
None of this “I hope he has my eyes”, or “I wonder if the baby will look like me or you”. We're all hoping the baby gets the good genes and somehow completely bypasses the bad ones you brought to the table.
8 Over-Compensating Much?
From expensive clothes to plastic surgery, there are a plethora of ways to account for any discrepancies between your and your partner's looks. Google searches for “how to be more attractive” are piled high in your browsing history. It's going to start stressing you out, though. Seriously, you're going to become obsessed.
Not only will all of these efforts begin to get excessive for you personally, your partner will probably start to worry about you. Or they'll be totally supportive because they want you to be a little less ugly, too.
Do any of these things actually work? Probably not to the extent that you want them to. Are you wasting your energy trying each and every method you've ever heard of? Definitely. It's your life, though, and you screwed it up when you first got with a looker anyway.
7 He May Treat You Like Dirt
You have most likely heard that looks don't matter at some point in your life. They actually do, though, as you can probably tell from the rest of this list. You might have also heard that beauty is only skin-deep. This one is definitely true. No matter how gorgeous someone is, they could still have the coldest heart.
This can and will happen to you if you're with someone who is way out of your league. We would hope that you learn about your significant other's bad attitude before you get together. But there's always the chance that they'll change for the worse over time, too.
Some of the most attractive people are actually also some of the worst human beings on this planet. We're hopeful that your boyfriend or girlfriend would never mistreat you, but you never know! It's okay to sacrifice good looks for a semi-decent personality!
6 No One Will Believe You
How about those romantic comedies where the girl convinces her best guy friend to go to a party with her-just as friends, but everyone obviously assumes they're a thing? Or when one guy pays someone to act as his girlfriend at Thanksgiving dinner so his parents will stop nagging him?
If you show up to a family event with your super attractive significant other, there's a chance that they won't believe you. Even for a second, they won't actually think that he or she is your real partner. When you show your besties a picture of him from last weekend, they might accuse you of lying.
This is all because your partner is too hot for you, and they will just assume that it's some sort of joke. If you don't really care too much, then it's no big deal! Hopefully they'll get over it soon.
5 It'll be Pricey
From makeup to clothes to trips to the salon, you'll likely be dumping a bunch of money each week. There's nothing wrong with looking fabulous at all times, but at some point, keeping up with your partner's hotness is going to drain more than your wallet. It's going to drain your energy, too.
Chances are, you'll find yourself at the mall all the time. You'll be buying the most expensive clothes. You'll be getting your nails done every week. At some point, the dollars may not be worth it, and your partner may have some issues with this insane spending. He just doesn't understand that it costs a pretty penny to make you look half as good as he does.
If money isn't an issue for you, go for it. Whatever you think will work is up to you. But our guess is that you likely won't ever catch up to you significant other, no matter how many designer bags you own.
4 You're Missing on his Facebook
Now, if you're mature enough not to care about this, go you! Unfortunately, the majority of us with a partner who is on social media will appreciate the occasional tribute post-whether it's for the awesome breakfast in bed, your anniversary, or just a cute selfie at dinner.
But what if you just aren't very attractive? What if your significant other doesn't want his followers to see you? It's a harsh blow, and they'll probably never admit it, but it will always be in the back of your mind.
Think of how many followers or friends your spouse has on social media, and think about how many of them would see the post of you two. It's kind of crazy. But still, that's a lot of people who support your significant other or like your him in some way. That's a lot of pressure!
3 Hitting the Gym
You've got to compensate for your lack of attractiveness somehow. How are you planning on doing this without plastic surgery and $1,000 worth of makeup? Have you considered going to the gym and getting super fit? Not only will your significant other be more likely to show you off, but you will also feel more confident in yourself.
Plus, maybe your partner will be more tempted to stay with you than to leave you for someone else. It's essentially foolproof! It will just take a ton of hard work and dedication from you, and you may get burned out pretty quick.
Just don't turn into one of those annoying gym rats who won't shut up about their pre-workout drinks and the fact that they maxed out last weekend. They're sure to leave you if that happens, and we don't blame 'em!
2 Going Through the Big D
It's true that looks aren't everything. But they are important-especially in trying to keep the romance alive. Every relationship fades out of the initial honeymoon phase pretty quickly. But the little hints of mushy gushy love will disappear, too if you can't satisfy your partner visually.
When your looker of a hubby slows down on the compliments or lessens the affection, you'll get concerned. Eventually, your romantic days will be trickling out. With the missing spark, divorce is likely to cross your mind-especially if you have been unsure about the relationship from the start.
Plus, who's to say that your man won't leave you for a more successful woman at work, who just happens to be about 100 times sexier than you are? Divorce could happen at any point, and it makes sense to worry when you're way out of someone's league.
1 Settling for Someone Else
Now, divorce and death are both highly likely situations. If something happens, and you want to get with someone else, who can you realistically be with? Probably not another looker. The odds just aren't in your favor for lightning to strike you twice like that. You may have to settle for someone who is equally or less attractive than you are-just like your previous hookup did.
You won't be able to act on any crushes you have at work or in the neighborhood. You can't just flirt successfully with any cutie at the bar. You'll have to seek out those in your league-the ones who are looking for someone like you. Ironically, they're looking for someone like them. They may not be the most attractive, but neither are you.
As much as it may suck to have to settle, at least you won't have to worry about all of these “being with a looker” struggles ever again!
