15 Things You Can Do With Your Boyfriend If You're Both Cheapos
Adulting can be tough AF. It's a struggle to keep up with rent, bills and grocery shopping - and that doesn't even count the money that you need to go on dates! This can get pretty annoying, especially if you are in a relationship with someone that you want to spoil. Spending night after night in front of the TV is definitely not a problem (who doesn't love binge watching Orange Is The New Black and Game Of Thrones?!), but after a few days of this you and your partner may both want to get out of the house!
Thankfully there are lots of awesome things you can do with your boyfriend when you're broke AF. You don't have to splurge all of your hard earned money on a trip to a fancy restaurant or nightclub (even though that can be pretty fun, too!). If you want to have a fun night with your boyfriend without spending too much money, here are 15 things you can do with your boyfriend when you're both broke AF.
15 Drink Up… For Cheap
Who doesn't love wine!? We're all about the red, the white, and the rosé. It's tasty, drinkable and most importantly… it can be very cheap! Head down to your local liquor store and you should be able to find a bottle of wine for less than $10, which makes a very cheap (and boozy) night for you and your date! Sure, you can look at all the low price options before making a decision, as some brands of cheap wine can taste pretty disgusting. Bring your phone and Google the options so that you don't end up buying the bottle that tastes like vinegar. Now you can take the wine home and spend the evening sitting on the sofa or outside with your man, drinking glasses of wine and talking about life, the world, and everything. And if you don't like wine? No problem. Try beer, rum or whiskey instead!
14 Cheaper Than Netflix
The movie theatre can be a very expensive night out, especially if you decide to fork out for some popcorn, drinks, and nachos. The price of a movie ticket seems to have seriously gone up in the last few years, but most movie theatres have nights where they run deals and tickets are cheaper. Call your local place to ask about deals, such as buy one/get one free tickets or discount days. Once you've found a good option you can arrange the date, and then you just need to get the snacks! You can save a little more money on snacks by buying them beforehand at a local shop or gas station, as this will be much cheaper than buying the snacks at the movie theatre. Just make sure that you bring a big bag to hide all of the snacks in!
13 Oh, Puppies!
If you and your date both love animals you should consider spending an afternoon volunteering at your local animal shelter. This will cost you absolutely nothing (other than petrol money to get there) and it is guaranteed to be a fun afternoon playing with dogs and cats! This is a great way to boost you and your partner's mood while making a difference to the world. Volunteering at an animal shelter is one of the most fun ways to volunteer as you get to play with the animals and take them for walks, and if your partner is an animal lover too, it will be a great way to bond. Look online to find your nearest animal shelter and then give them a ring to find out when you can come down to help out. The only problem with this date? There is always the chance that you and your boyfriend will fall in love with a furry creature and want to take it home!
12 Art Is In The Eye Of The Beholder
If you think that a museum date is going to be super boring and also expensive, that couldn't be further from the truth. Most cities have at least one free museum or art gallery, and often museums with entry fees have a few free events on each month. Since there are so many different kinds of museums, you should be able to find something that you both enjoy, from fashion to art to history. You can wander around together checking out all of the exhibits, and afterwards you will have lots to talk about. This is a great way to learn a little bit more about the world around you while you are with your partner, and you could end up finding a new passion or interest. And if you both think that the museum is boring, you can always sneak off to a coffee shop for a hot drink and some cake!
11 Colors Of The Wind
One of the best ways to bond with your partner is to get creative together! You can teach each other about your passions, such as painting, playing guitar, yoga or cooking. Everyone loves to teach their loved ones more about their passions, and even if the partner doesn't do a good job it is sure to be a fun night (unless they somehow manage to break your guitar while trying to master a note… ). This gives you the chance to tell your partner more about your hobbies and interests, and if they enjoy the hobby it could become a regular thing that you do together. Another benefit of a creative night is that it will cost little to nothing, so you don't have to open your purse if you don't want to (or can't afford to). Just get your yoga mat out, put some music on, and laugh as your partner tries to do a difficult yoga pose!
10 Say Cheese
So you're probably thinking that you will love doing a photoshoot with your boyfriend, but your boyfriend will probably hate every second of the night. Right?! Wrong! Sure, most guys hate mushy and romantic selfies, but they tend to enjoy taking funny pictures. And if they really don't want to be in the pictures, they can just get you to do silly, funny poses while they snap away. This is a fun date idea that allows you to get silly with each other, and you may even end up snapping a picture that is worthy of being framed in your house. (Of course, you will probably take a few snaps of you both ugly laughing that you never want to show anyone.) You can even make the pictures into an event by heading to a scenic location, or you could just take some goofy snaps in your bedroom in your pyjamas. Either way it will be a fun way to pass a few hours!
9 Get Out Of The City
The city has lots to offer couples if they have some money to spend, but if you're trying to save money you can grab a blanket, a few pillows, a bottle of wine (or two) and jump in the car. You can drive out of the city to explore the country, and when you find a beautiful field or forest you can enjoy. Get the blanket, pillows, and wine and head out to find a quiet spot where you can sit down, relax, talk, and enjoy the beautiful views. This is guaranteed to be a romantic and peaceful date, and it gives you and your partner the chance to take a quick break from the city to recharge. You should also pack some candles and a lighter if you plan on staying for the evening so that the dark doesn't force you to go home. It can also be useful to bring a jacket along so that you don't get cold when the temperature drops.
8 Have A Special Night
Inject some spice into your relationship by spending a sizzling night at home with your boyfriend. You don't need to leave the house or spend any money! Just lock the door, close the blinds, and change into something hot that your boyfriend will love. Load up a romantic song and give him the dance of his life, or if you're nervous ask him to do it for you! You're going to be lying on the floor crying with laughter. This is a fun way to get close to your partner, and if you have a few glasses of wine it is likely that you will be dancing around the room laughing even if you don't feel sexy! Don't worry about what you look like or what your partner is thinking. Just keep dancing and let him enjoy the show.
7 A Walk To Remember
Some people hate the idea of going for a walk, but it's a lot more fun if you drive somewhere beautiful and bring your date along with you. If you look online, you can definitely find lots of scenic walking routes that are close to you, from walks around lakes and through forests to urban walks through historical parts of your city. Pick a place that suits you and your date well. For instance, if you are both working during the day and you want to go somewhere in the evening it is best to look for a walk that is less than two hours long so that you don't get super tired. The walk will give you the chance to talk and connect while you enjoy the views, and it is likely that you will be in a great mood when you get home as nature is good for the mind.
6 A Dog Is A Man's Best Friend… And So Is The Park
If you or your partner own a dog you should definitely head down to your local dog park for a date. This is guaranteed to be a great night for you, your partner, and the dog, so everyone will be happy. And if you have just started dating, you can bond over your love for animals! Many people avoid dates like this as they worry that they will have to spend the whole evening looking after their pet and ignoring their date, but in reality you and your date will look after the pet together. This is bound to be a funny experience, and your date won't feel left out if you make sure that they are involved in looking after the dog. It's also a great way to find out if your dog and your date get along, which is very important to most dog owners, obviously!
5 Ease Up
Dim the lights and get the massage oil (or body lotion) out for a romantic and heated massage night with your partner. This is a fun way to get intimate with each other, especially if you have some scented body oils and some candles to create a mood. Put some music on and take turns to give each other back massages, and then afterwards you can run a hot bubble bath to enjoy together. This means that you can wash all of the oils off your body together, which is lots of fun - and it also means that you won't end up ruining your bed sheets or the couch. This isn't the best idea if you've just started dating, since you probably haven't been intimate yet. Hold off on this date idea if you've just started hanging out, and save it for a relationship!
4 Head To The Farmer's Market
Shopping for food isn't normally a fun activity, but you and your date will enjoy yourself if you find a farmer's market. This is much more fun (and a little fancier!) than heading to a supermarket or grocery store, and there are all kinds of delicious treats that you would struggle to find in a normal shop. You don't even have to spend any money, you can just walk around together to check out all of the different stalls. If you have a little money to spend you could grab a few items for a picnic afterwards. This means that you can make a whole day out of your date without spending much money! If you want to do this, wait for some good weather so that you can enjoy wandering around outside without getting cold or wanting to go inside. This is a romantic, wallet-friendly date, and it definitely makes the weekly food shop more enjoyable!
3 A Cooking Lesson (Followed By A Meal In Bed)
If you and your date are both foodies, why not have a cooking date? You can either find a recipe video online that you can follow, or you can teach each other how to cook your favorite meals. This is a fun and tasty way to learn more about the things your partner loves, and you could even find a new recipe that you love! One of the best things about this date idea is how versatile this is. On the weekend you can cook breakfast together and then enjoy breakfast in bed together, and on a busy weekday you can make dinner and then chill out after, so you can do this date idea any day of the week! It is also a very cheap night, especially if you already have most of the ingredients in the house. Just make sure that you don't spill anything on your bed sheets!
2 Tacos, Si!
If you and your date want to enjoy a meal together but you are both too broke to go to a restaurant, why not bring the restaurant to you by having a themed food night? You could do Italian, Mexican, Indian or Chinese -- the possibilities are endless! All you need is some food, some drinks, and maybe a few accessories to make the night feel a little more authentic (such as some candles or some sombreros). Simply head to your local shop and pick up a few specific items such as tacos and tequila, and then head home and put some Mexican music on YouTube. It is bound to be a fun night of cooking, drinking, and dancing - and realistically you can do this for less than $30! It is also likely that your date will be impressed by your romantic date idea, so it is a cheap way to get in the good books!
1 City On Wheels
If you and your boyfriend go on a bike ride together, that gives you the chance to explore the area that you love in, and if you don't already have bikes you can normally hire them by the hour for a reasonable price - just look online to see what your options are. If you already know your city like the back of your hand you can venture further out to explore the areas outside your city, such as local forests and countryside. This is bound to be a relaxing and fun date, especially if neither of you have ridden a bike for a few years! If your date is hesitant about spending the evening exercising, tempt them by suggesting that you ride to a local pub or café for a glass of wine or a mug of coffee. This gives the bike ride a little more purpose, and one drink won't break the bank. Just make sure that it's only one!
